Solar Energy

Energy is what makes things work. We are using more and more energy on recent electrical items and we need to make energy. The most common way is to burn fossil fuels, but fossil fuels are not endless and are running out. So, we need a sustainable and renewable energy source. Also, burning fossil fuels releases many greenhouse gases, so we need an efficient and eco-friendly way to produce energy. Here is a table to compare the different types of energy.

We are going to look at solar energy.

You can see solar energy as sunshine and feel it as heat. The suns energy travels very quickly, in waves, through space and reaches the earth as heat and light. This solar energy when used naturally can help because plants need sunlight, to dry the washing and light dark spaces. Solar cells have the ability to harness the sunlight, convert it to electricity and use it or store it and the sunnier it is the more powerful the energy produced is. When solar cells are joined together they make solar panels. Solar farms are plains that are completely covered in solar panels. The best location for solar farms is in desserts because there is less rain and almost no clouds to block the sunlight. Solar power stations use mirrors to reflect sunlight on to a tower covered in solar panels. Some solar power stations use around 624 mirrors to reflect the sunlight. Solar energy can be used to charge phones or even calculators, but some toy cars use solar panels. Solar energy can also be used to heat public swimming pools. At home it is popular to use solar energy to heat your water. Transport can be solar powered as well for example a solar powered car you would not have to pay for fuel on sunny days. You could reflect light onto a slice of buttered bread to toast it this another example of solar energy. In space rovers are powered completely by solar panels.

Today there are more energy efficient appliances so use them and when you are cold do not switch the heater on just put on a sweater and ask for non-electric gifts a good example is a book. This will reduce the air-pollution and slow down global warming and the melting of the polar ice-caps.
